Digital Radiography (DR) uses an X-ray sensor (Detector) instead of traditional film or CR cassette. Advantages include time efficiency since the image is captured directly onto a detector that in near-realtime is saved as a digital file. Also, DR produces less radiation to make an image of similar contrast to conventional radiography.
Computed Radiography (CR) is a fully digital technology that uses an imaging plate (IP) made of photostimulable phosphor instead of traditional film. The imaging plate is housed in a cassette and placed under the body part or object to be examined and the x-ray exposure is made. Once the image is captured, the plate is fed into a scanner which reads the image and saves it.
