RSNA 2020 will be held virtually

The RSNA has announced that its 2020 conference will be held virtually out of concern for the safety of its attendees and participants considering the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the first time the in-person conference, the world’s largest annual event in radiology, has been canceled in 75 years. The RSNA conference was last canceled in 1945 when WWII fuel and materials shortages caused the cancellation of the show.

Studies published in Radiology suggest chest CTs can diagnose COVID-19 pneumonia with a shorter processing time and as much accuracy as the standard DNA testing method, RT-PCR. However, the American College of Radiology (ACR) has stated that CT should not be used as a first-line screening tool for the virus.


On February 26, 2020, a study covering more than 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 found that chest CT was more effective in early diagnosis of the disease than RT-PCR.

This one is a no-brainer — reduce your tax bill and add revenue to your practice. Purchase radiology equipment and deduct the purchase price under Section 179 of the IRS Tax Code. The deduction is good for both new and used equipment — the MRI, CT, Bone Densitometer, or Mammo machine you purchase before December 31, 2018 just needs to be “new to you”.  There is one catch — the equipment must be financed or purchased during the 2018 tax year.
